This release is the second Margaret River Shiraz produced by Lenton Brae. Continuing with the Shiraz seemed the right thing to to after our first attempt form the 2007 vintage won two gold medals and topped its class at the National wine show in Canberra. The season was exceptionally warm, with harvest dates for all varieties considerably earlier than usual. The shiraz vines in particular, benefited from this warmth and attained full ripeness; a feat not always possible for this variety in Margaret River. The wine is of medium body, with a supple, juicy texture. It's soft tannins make the wine approachable now, though the wine has the fruit intensity to allow cellaring for up to five years. Bottled May 2009.

In making this wine, the emphasis is on minimal tannin extraction with the desire to produce a style rich in flavour with a softness to allow the wine to be enjoyed upon release. Winemaking techniques such as cooler fermentation temperatures and earlier removal of the wine from its skins and seeds have facilitated this, whilst avoiding the extraction of bitter, green tannins.
